Tail Docking Policy
At our breeding program, we have made the decision not to dock the tails of our Toy Australian Shepherds. We believe that there is no longer a need for tail docking, as these puppies are not being raised for farm work, where tail docking was originally done to prevent injuries while working in close quarters with livestock.
Global Perspective on Tail Docking:
It’s important to note that in many countries around the world, including the United Kingdom, Australia, and parts of Europe, tail docking is not standard practice for Australian Shepherds. In fact, the Australian Shepherd Club of America (ASCA) and the United Kennel Club (UKC) recognize the full, natural tail as the preferred trait. These countries and organizations embrace the idea that docking tails is unnecessary for companion animals and place emphasis on natural conformation.
By allowing our puppies to keep their tails, we align with these international standards and contribute to the preservation of the breed’s natural beauty.
What Does This Mean for You?
When you adopt a Toy Australian Shepherd from us, you will receive a beautiful puppy with a full, natural tail, or a naturally bobbed tail but never a docked tail. We believe in preserving the integrity of the breed and raising healthy, happy puppies that are a true representation of the breed standard. We hope that you’ll appreciate the natural look and charm that comes with a full tail or a naturally bobbed tail.
