Here at Ivy Meadows, we are committed to being different. You may ask yourself, different than what? I’m here to share that with you. Some aspects of dog care that puppy families may not always notice—but breeders clearly understand—are the varying breeding standards that can influence how breeders raise, house, treat, and train their dogs, if they even train them at all. As breeders, we have the unique insight into how dogs truly live behind the scenes. We also see how much—or how little—actually happens with puppies to prepare them for their future lives. This is where we pledge to stand apart. Our dogs are not merely a means to an end. They aren’t our cash cows; they are cherished members of our family, loved, trained, and taken on adventures. It's incredibly important to us that our dogs lead fulfilling lives. This standard begins long before a dog enters our breeding program and continues well after their breeding career ends. Their value to us has always been determined by our love and care for them first and foremost. We hold several priorities here dear to our hearts. We breed with the goal of bettering and preserving the breed as a whole. We strive for correct conformation that allows our Aussies to move freely and gracefully, without pain, fulfilling their purpose as a breed. We also emphasize excellent temperaments and aim to give our dogs the best lives possible—lives full of enjoyment, adventure, and positive challenges that help them grow into resilient, confident, stable, and well-rounded companions. We are committed to giving each puppy the best start in life and ensuring they are placed with families who will continue this level of dog care. Yes, we implement Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS) and Environmental Stimulation Instructions (ESI). We maintain clean and sanitized puppy areas. We keep up with deworming, veterinary care, and parasite protection—but we don’t stop there. Our puppies are held, played with, loved on, and challenged in positive, age-appropriate ways every single day. They receive grooming and nail trimming every few days, not only for hygiene and safety but also to prepare them for a lifetime of cooperative care. Puppies who aren’t exposed to grooming early can later struggle with handling, especially with their paws and faces. When we send our puppies home, our work is not finished. We've put in tremendous effort to provide them with the strongest foundation possible before the joy of raising your new puppy is passed on to you. Our puppies start potty training and crate training early. Even if some puppies stay beyond the typical 8–9 week go-home period, we continue their training progress. They are neither forgotten nor neglected; they are loved and engaged with daily, just as we would with any puppy we’re caring for ourselves. This also explains why we don’t reduce our prices as puppies grow older. We recognize the dedication, love, and training we continue to invest in them. Families may adore the charming tiny puppy stage—it’s true—but they also understand the demands of raising a very young puppy. An older puppy has had more time to learn, develop bladder control, and receive training, confidence, and life skills. There are families who appreciate the advantage that comes with skipping some challenging early puppy stages. Growing older does not diminish a puppy’s worth. A beautiful website, impressive pedigree, or high price does not convey the reality of a dog’s daily life or the experiences of a puppy's first eight weeks. That aspect is crucial. We believe dogs are a gift, and because of that, they deserve so much better than what can sometimes be accepted as “good enough.” If you’re considering breeders and trying to determine who to trust for your new addition, I urge you: don’t make your choice solely based on price or location. Don’t select a breeder just because they seem nice or because their dogs have impressive credentials. Yes, those factors are important. But it’s equally vital to understand what you are investing in—and more critically, that the dogs and puppies are being given the quality of life they deserve, from start to finish. Inquire about how the dogs live. Ask what is actively being done with the puppies. Discover how they are socialized and prepared for life beyond the breeder’s home. Ask what happens to the adult dogs after their breeding careers end. Inquire whether the breeder remains available to support you after your puppy goes home. Because dogs deserve better than to be valued solely for their breeding capabilities. And when you trust someone to raise and place your new best friend and companion, you deserve assurance that your puppy has been interacted with, worked with, loved, and intentionally prepared for life outside the breeder’s home. You should know how your puppy is being raised. You deserve to feel free—and encouraged—to ask questions, reach out, and stay connected with your breeder before and long after your puppy comes home. The dogs themselves deserve breeders who care deeply about the lives they lead as much as the puppies they produce. We are committed to being that difference. To preserving and protecting our breed, continually learning, growing, and doing better than the status quo. And to providing our dogs and puppies the lives they are inherently worthy of. 🤍
